The Eastman Selects scored five second period goals en route to an 8-3 victory over the Winnipeg Thrashers at the Gateway Arena. Kaycee Coyle had five-point afternoon with a goal and four assists; Luke Mistelbacher had hat trick and Thomas Phillips chipped in with four helpers. Trey Sellen, Cole Gratton and Bryce Warkentine also scored for the Selects who have won four in a row since their 12-game winning streak came to an end on January 15th with a 4-1 loss to the Yellowhead Chiefs. Eastman’s Andrew Blahy made 29 saves.

 

Eastman gave up two goals in each period and lost 6-1 to the Westman Wildcats in Hartney. Bethany Weilgosh had the lone goal for the Selects. Eastman goaltender Rhyan Beardy faced 26 shots.

 

There were two games in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Saturday night. Braeden Rebeck scored the tying goal with 1:25 left in regulation and then potted the shootout winner as Springfield edged Niverville 4-3 in Oakbank. Brady Chambers and Quinn Keller also scored for the Xtreme (12-2-2) who moved four points ahead of Lorette in the race for top spot in the HTJHL. The Comets do have two games in hand on Springfield. Micah Funk, Jaxsen Friesen and Elijah Durksen replied for the Clippers. Eric Bossuyt had a hat trick and Zach Windsor scored his second goal of the game with 5:58 left in the third period as the Macdonald Swarm shaded Steinbach 5-4 in Rosenort. Dawson Smith had three first period goals for the Huskies including a shorthanded effort with 59 seconds left in the frame. Dilan Sawatzky had the other Steinbach goal.

 

The St. Malo Warriors lost 5-4 to Arborg. Daytona Moneas scored the overtime winner for the hometown Ice Dawgs. Teagan Fillion, Jaden Gosselin, Cole Holdnick and Brendan Spence did the goal scoring for the Warriors.

 

The Winnipeg Ice gave up four first period goals and lost 7-2 to Saskatoon. Tristan Robbins had four helpers for the Blades. Skyler Bruce and Jack Finley replied for the Ice.

 

The Winnipeg Jets dropped a 3-2 decision to Boston. David Pastrnak’s power play goal 3:59 into the third period proved to be the winner. Jansen Harkins and Andrew Copp replied for the Jets who wrap up their eight-game road trip today against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

 

Evan Polei scored 78 seconds into overtime to lift the Manitoba Moose past the Chicago Wolves 4-3. Bobby Lynch had a pair of goals in regulation for the Moose. The other went to Thomas Caron. Manitoba netminder Evan Cormier made 36 saves.
