The Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League held its annual general meeting Monday night in Steinbach. All eight teams are expected back for season 38. The St. Clements Gators, who joined the HTJHL last fall, will play their home games out of the East St. Paul Arena in 2024-25. The Gators called the East Selkirk Arena home last season. The league's fall meeting will take place in September at which time teams will confirm their status for the new season. 


The Winnipeg Jets put their three-game winning streak on the line tonight against the Predators in Nashville. The Jets, who clinched a Stanley Cup playoff spot last Thursday, are seven points back of the NHL's Central Division leading Dallas Stars and two points behind the second place Colorado Avalanche. Winnipeg has five games left in the regular season schedule. 


The final Grand Slam curling event of the season begins today in Toronto. Kerri Einarson, Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes, Matt Dunstone and Reid Carruthers are competing at the Players Championship. World champions Rachel Homan and Niklas Edin are also in the 24-team field. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes have re-signed right-handed starting pitcher Joey Matulovich. A native of Walnut Creek, California, Matulovich joined the Goldeyes during the first week of the 2023 campaign and finished the season with a 5-9 record and a 3.93 earned run average in 20 starts. His 121 strikeouts were just three shy of the league lead, and he ranked fifth with 116.2 innings pitched. The 27-year-old was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 20th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of the University of California (Berkeley, California). He spent parts of five seasons in the Brewers’ system, reaching as high as Class-A Advanced with the Midwest League’s Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Matulovich appeared in 95 career games in the affiliated minor leagues, primarily out of the bullpen. He compiled a 12-10 record with a 4.66 ERA and two saves. Winnipeg now has 19 players under contract for the 2024 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 30 players during spring training, which begins May 1.


The Calgary Stampeders will add former head coach and general manager Wally Buono to their Wall of Fame. Buono became Calgary's head coach in 1990 before adding GM duties two years later. He recorded a franchise-best 153 wins, leading the Stampeders to six Grey Cup appearance and three victories.
