Alex Bergman poured in 18 points as the Steinbach Regional varsity girls basketball team shaded the Glenlawn Lions 54-52. Sabres guard Peyton Kehler drained some timely 3's while Lily Anderson and Jessi Tkachyk were strong defensively. The SRSS improved its record to 4-2 in the South Central Athletic Conference.


Steinbach Regional dropped a 3-2 decision to the Sturgeon Heights Huskies at the T.G. Smith Arena. Carson Funk and Jude Plett did the goal scoring for the Sabres. The SRSS has a 9-9 record in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League's Platinum Promotions Division. 


Brandon Funk found the back of the net 77 seconds into overtime to lift the Steinbach Pistons past the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 3-2 at the HyLife Centre in La Broquerie. Trey Sauder and Noah Szabo scored in regulation for the Pistons who received a 26-save performance from Beck Liden. Wolverines netminder Kaiden Kirkwood faced 53 shots.


Calyb Moore had a hat trick Eric Cote had three assists as the Eastman Selects downed the Winnipeg Bruins 6-3 at the Southdale Arena. Job Peters scored on a penalty shot 3:05 into the third period to extend Eastman's lead to 5-1 and then added an empty netter with 23 seconds left in regulation. Calem Normandeau had the other Selects goal.


Brenden Walker scored 19 seconds into overtime to lift the Ste. Anne Aces past the Morden Bombers 4-3. Cody Fowlie, Jordan DePape and Owen Blocker also scored for the defending SEMHL champions. Andrew Perrault, Mike Rey and Evan Weurch replied for the visiting Bombers who led 1-0 and 3-1 at the period breaks.


Boston and Minnesota were winners in the Professional Women's Hockey League on Wednesday night. Loren Gabel scored her second goal of the game with 1:50 left in the third period as Boston shaded Toronto 3-2. Ste. Anne's Jocelyne Larocque drew an assist on Hannah Miller's first period goal for Toronto. Kristen Campbell of Brandon stopped 19 shots in net for Toronto. Susanna Tapani scored 1:57 into overtime to lift Minnesota past Ottawa 3-2.


The Winnipeg Football Club announced the replacement of the stadium turf for the upcoming 2024 season. Installing new turf at IG Field is part of the team's commitment to providing the best possible conditions for football and soccer players. Field Turf Vertex- Core 1 is the highest quality turf system and includes CoolPlay TPE infill, designed to reduce heat build-up in the summer months. The turf will be FIFA Quality Pro certified upon completion. "We are thrilled to partner with FieldTurf for this important upgrade to IG Field," said Wade Miller, President and CEO of the Winnipeg Football Club. "This investment is part of our ongoing capital improvement projects to the stadium and will be a great new surface for our players as we prepare to host the 2025 Grey Cup." The project is underway and is slated for completion in early May, just in time for the 2024 season; to provide ample time for completion, Valour FC matches and Blue Bombers games are scheduled to begin the last week of May.
