Sophia Heidinger scored twice and Addison Tomes made 30 saves as the Eastman Selects defeated the Interlake Lightning 3-2 Wednesday night in Niverville in game one of their best-of-five Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League quarterfinal. Cassidy LeSage also scored for the Selects. Game two goes Friday night in Warren. 


Calyb Moore and Eric Cote each had a goal and three assists as the Eastman Selects downed the Kenora Thistles 7-5 at the SunGro Centre in Beausejour. Calem Normandeau, Jeremiah Warkentine, Malachi Thiessen, Cameron Sylvester and Mario Gagnon also scored for the Selects who trail the Norman Northstars by just one point in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League. The regular season schedule ends this weekend. Eastman will play a pair of games against the 11th place Parkland Rangers at the SunGro Centre. The Northstars will play two games against the third place Southwest Cougars in Thompson. 


Boston and New York were winners in the PWHL Wednesday night. Aerin Frankel made 20 saves as Boston beat Ottawa 3-1. Abby Roque and Alex Carpenter scored in the shootout as New York shaded Montreal 4-3. 


Four-time defending champion Kerri Einarson and six-time champion Jennifer Jones have qualified for the playoffs at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary. Einarson has 6-1 record and Jones is 5-1 heading into the final day of round robin play. Kate Cameron is 3-3 while Kaitlyn Lawes is 3-4.
