The Ross L. Gray Raiders of Sprague defeated Glenboro/Baldur 32-31 in the third place game at the Provincial A/AA Junior Varsity girls basketball championship in Winnipeg. The Green Valley Pirates downed Margaret Barbour of The Pas 64-49 in the boys consolation final. William Morton of Gladstone girls and Souris boys won the Provincial A/AA Junior Varsity championships. Miller Collegiate of Altona girls and Windsor Park boys captured the Provincial AAA JV championships.


Cole Topham and Ian Friesen each had a goal and two assists as the Steinbach Huskies downed the Springfield Xtreme 5-3 in Oakbank. Rylan Penner, Troy Friesen and Ethan Unger also scored for the defending Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League champions who lead the best-of-seven final two games to none. Nathan Bartecki, Braeden Rebeck and Nathan McDougall did the goal scoring for the Xtreme. Game three goes Sunday at the T.G. Smith Arena.


Dylan Liske made 45 saves in the Beausejour Comets 5-3 victory over the defending Capital Region Junior Hockey League champion Selkirk Fishermen at the SunGro Centre. Jarvis Ewasko, Aidan Avanthay, Evan Leeson, Jaiden Reeb and Tanner Amos found the back of the net for the Comets who evened the best-of-seven semifinal at one.


Brendan Bottem had three goals and an assist as the Niverville Nighthawks beat the Winnipeg Freeze 6-1. Adam Vigfusson chipped in with three assists for the Nighthawks who extended their lead over the Selkirk Steelers to three points in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s East Division. Niverville has two games left and Selkirk has three.


Addilyn Nohlgren and Danyel Heppner scored third period power play goals as the Eastman Selects downed the Westman Wildcats 4-1 in Niverville. Isabelle Carriere and Abby Dixon also scored for the Selects who evened the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League best-of-five semifinal at a game apiece. Game three goes Sunday in Hartney.


The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 6-3 decision to the Broncos in Swift Current. Jayden Wiens, Matteo Michels and Caleb Hadland did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings.


The Winnipeg Jets lost 5-0 to the Vancouver Canucks. The Jets trailed 3-0 after the first period and 4-0 after forty minutes. Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves for the visiting Jets (40-18-5), who were coming off a 3-0 victory over the Kraken in Seattle Friday night.


Kristian Reichel had a goal and an assist and Thomas Milic made 22 saves as the Manitoba Moose downed the Iowa Wild 4-1.


Defending champion Brad Gushue defeated Brendan Bottcher of Alberta 7-3 in the 1-2 Page Playoff game and will play in the Brier final Sunday night in Regina. Bottcher will meet Mike McEwen of Saskatchewan in the semifinal at 1 p.m. McEwen beat Matt Dunstone of Manitoba 6-5 in the 3-4 Page Playoff game.
