The Provincial AAAA High School Varsity Volleyball quarterfinals take place today in Winnipeg. Steinbach Regional boys will meet the River East Kodiaks and the SRSS girls will face the Lord Selkirk Royals. Niverville girls will take on Brandon Vincent Massey. The Provincial Junior Varsity Volleyball Championships end today. Steinbach Regional will face Lord Selkirk in the AAAA girls semifinals in Brandon. SRSS boys lost to Glenlawn in the quarterfinals. At the AAA championships – Niverville girls will meet John Taylor in the quarterfinals in Altona. Steinbach Christian boys lost to Neelin in the quarterfinals in Winkler. Gabrielle Roy Les Roys will face Major Pratt in the quarterfinals at the A/AA girls championship in Russell. Gabrielle Roy will take on Warren in the quarterfinals at the A/AA boys championship in Hamiota.


Colton Wiebe and Theoren Koop each had a goal and an assist as Steinbach Regional downed College Beliveau 5-2. Carlos Penner, Dominic Rooney and Mark Plett also scored for the Sabres who are riding a four-game winning streak.


Braden Hildebrand had a hat trick in the Red River Mudbugs 5-2 victory over the Macdonald Swarm in the lone Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League game. Lucas Dyck and Dillon Thiessen also scored for the Mudbugs. Griffin Campbell and Jeremy Waunch replied for the Swarm.


The Niverville Nighthawks dropped a 6-2 decision to the Portage Terriers at Stride Place. Isaac Rentmeester and Braden Panzer did the goal scoring for the Nighthawks who trailed 2-1 and 3-2 at the period breaks. St. Pierre’s Jayden Catellier made 17 saves in net for the Terriers.


Jeremie Collette scored twice as St. Malo downed Beausejour Comets 7-5 at the Sun Gro Centre. Damon Johnson, Aiden Peters, Radek Merasty, Braeden McFarlane and Mikka Lambert also scored for the Warriors. Aidan Ticknor and Ryan Miller had two goals each for the Comets. Brady Bowes had the other Beausejour goal.


Remi Laurencelle and Phil Letkeman had two goals each as Winkler downed Red River 5-3 in the lone SEMHL game. Cody Friesen also scored for the Royals. TJ Matuszewski, Riley Hunter and Jonah Wasylak replied for the Wild.


The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 4-3 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes at Westoba Place. Mason Ward, Nate Danielson and Calder Anderson did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings. Daniel Hauser made 30 saves as the Winnipeg Ice downed the Blades 6-3 in Saskatoon. Conor Geekie, Graham Sward, Ty Nash, Owen Pederson, Vladislav Shilo and Ben Zloty did the goal scoring for the Ice. Connor McClennon chipped in with three assists.


Josh Morrissey scored 34 seconds into overtime as the Winnipeg Jets edged Dallas 5-4. Cole Perfetti, Jansen Harkins, Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor scored in regulation for the Jets who wrap up their three-game road trip Sunday against the Blackhawks in Chicago.


The Manitoba Moose lost 3-0 to Grand Rapids. Jussi Olkinuora made 26 saves in net for the Griffins. Moose netminder Arvid Holm stopped 31 shots.


Manitoba champions Zachary Wasylik and Lisa Birchard lost a pair of playoff games Friday and were eliminated at the 2022 Everest Curling Club Championships at the Ice Palace in the West Edmonton Mall.
