Gabrielle Roy will face the host Virden Bears in the final at the Provincial AA High School Varsity Boys Basketball Championship. Les Roys defeated Green Valley 80-53 in the semifinals. The Pirates will take on Prairie Mountain in the third place game. The Ross L. Gray Raiders of Sprague will meet Gilbert Plains/Grandview in the third place game at the A boys championship in Grandview. The Raiders lost 59-47 to Glenboro/Baldur in the semifinals. Pinawa will face Elm Creek in the consolation final. The Panthers beat St. Laurent 77-56 in the semifinal. Ross L. Gray will meet host Gilbert Plains in the consolation final at the A girls championship. The Raiders downed Frontier Mosakahiken 53-30 in the semifinal.

Game two of the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven final between the Steinbach Huskies and Red River Mudbugs scheduled for Friday night in St. Jean was postponed due to the poor weather and road conditions and rescheduled to tonight. The Huskies won the series opener 4-3 Wednesday night at the T.G. Smith Centre.


The Steinbach Pistons dropped a 3-2 decision to the Portage Terriers. Kirk Mullen and Travis Hensrud did the goal scoring for the Pistons. Josh Paulhus scored twice as the Niverville Nighthawks beat the Winnipeg Blues 5-1.


Ashton Dubois had two goals and an assist as the St. Malo Warriors beat the Ice Dawgs in Arborg 6-4. The Capital Region Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven semifinal is tied at three games apiece. The deciding seventh game goes Monday in St. Malo.


Game four of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League final scheduled for Friday night in Ste. Anne between the Aces and Morden was postponed and rescheduled to Sunday night. The Bombers lead the best of seven three games to none.


The Brandon Wheat Kings lost 4-3 to the Prince Albert Raiders at Westoba Place. Nate Danielson, Andrei Malyavin and Nolan Ritchie scored for the Wheat Kings. Brandon has three games left and trail Calgary by two points in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Confence. The Hitmen have five games left.


Brandon’s Assiniboine Community College will play their final round robin game against Adrian College today at the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II Championship in Boston. The two-time reigning champion Cougars beat Michigan State University 10-0 and the University of Vermont 5-0 in their first two round robin games.


The 2023 World Women’s Curling Championship begins today in Sweden. Canada’s Kerri Einarson, Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard and Briane Harris will play their opener against Anna Hasselborg of Sweden at 1 p.m.
