The Carillon Sultans are riding a five-game winning streak. Carillon swept a doubleheader from the Pembina Valley Orioles Sunday at Arctic Field in Winkler. The Sultans plated six runs in the top of the first then added five more in the fifth and won the opener 15-4. Carillon took full advantage of six Pembina Valley errors in game one. Sam Toews had three rbi and Ryan Powers and Austin Friesen combined on a three-hitter in the opener which was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. Luc Lagasse singled home Cody Gunderson from third base with the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning as Carillon shaded the Orioles 3-2 in the second game. Chris Tetrault got the win as he went four innings and scattered five hits and gave up two earned runs. Tyler Plett picked up the save as he allowed just one hit and one walk over the last three innings. Carillon is in third place in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League with a 10-7 record. The St. Boniface Legionaires are in top spot at 12-6 while the St. James A's are in second place at 11-7. The Sultans next game is Wednesday in Ile des Chenes against St. Boniface. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 6-4 decision to the Kane County Cougars. Kane County right fielder Jonah Davis broke a 4-4 tie in the home half of the seventh inning with a two-run homer to centre field. It was the Cougars’ third long ball of the game. Jacob Bockelie had a three-run homer in the first inning for the Fish who lost five of six on their road trip. The Goldeyes (13-20) have the day off and will open a three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs Tuesday at Shaw Park. 


After a couple of days off, the undefeated Winnipeg Blue Bombers practice today from 11:20 a.m. - 1:10 p.m. at IG Field. The Bombers host the B.C. Lions on Thursday. Both teams are 2-0 to start the season. Winnipeg is coming off a 45-27 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders this past Friday in Regina.


Wyndham Clark fired a final round even par 70 and won the U.S. Open by one shot over Rory McIlroy at the Los Angeles Country Club. Clark finished at minus 10. Scottie Scheffler was three shots back in third place. Mackenzie Hughes was low Canadian at plus six. Adam Hadwin was plus 11 and Adam Svensson was plus 12.


Roger Hopper of Chesapeake, Virginia and Dawn Neal of Winnipeg are 2023 Manitoba Marathon champions. Hopper broke the tape in a time of 2:23:46 on Father’s Day in Winnipeg. He finished eight minutes and 41 seconds ahead of Steffan Reimer of Blumenort who took top Manitoban honors. Neil captured the women's Marathon in 2:57:58. Nearly 8,000 runners took part in the 45th Manitoba Marathon.
