The Carillon Sultans saw their Manitoba Junior Baseball League playoff run come to an end Sunday afternoon at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. The St. Boniface Legionaires held on for a 6-5 victory over the Sultans in the deciding fifth game of their semifinal. The Legionaires, who lost the first two games of the series, led 6-0 Friday night when game five was suspended in the top of the fourth inning due to lightning and a severe thunderstorm warning. When play resumed Sunday, Carillon scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull within one but couldn't push across the tying run over the last three innings. Rylan Penner and Sam Toews had two hits each for the Sultans while Joe Plett drove in a pair of runs. St. Boniface will meet the Elmwood Giants tonight at Koskie Field in game one of the MJBL's best-of-five final.

Carillon had a 6-0 record at Baseball Manitoba's 13U AAA qualifier in Stonewall and a 3-1 record at the 15U AAA qualifier in Ile des Chenes. Both Sultans teams will play in the Tier One Provincial Championships next month in Winnipeg. Co-host Boissevain defeated Portage 9-3 in the gold medal game at the Provincial 18U AA Championship. Carillon lost 20-15 to Portage in the semifinals.

The Carillon Sultans meet the Braves in Springfield tonight. The Sultans, who are coming off a 17-1 victory over the St. Boniface Brewers last Thursday in Steinbach, are in fourth place in the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League with a 10-5 record.

Joey Matulovich allowed just two hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter in eight innings of work as the Winnipeg Goldeyes blanked the Milwaukee Milkmen 5-0 at Franklin Field. Keith Torres homered for the Fish who have the day off. The Goldeyes will open a three-game series against the Sioux City Explorers Tuesday at Shaw Park.

It's day one of the Canadian Junior Girls Golf Championship in Hampton, New Brunswick. Eight Manitobans are in the field of 130 and they include Addison Kartusch, Jeri Lafleche & Jewel Lafleche of Winnipeg, Cala Korman of Killarney, Payton Oakden of Brandon, Keira Krahn & India Young of Carman and 2023 Manitoba Junior champion Crystal Zamzow of Swan River.
