Cole Topham scored twice and Blair McGowan chipped in with three assists as the Steinbach Huskies defeated the Clippers 5-1 in Niverville and now lead that best-of-seven Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League semifinal two games to one. Keyan Grimard, Ethan Unger and Ian Friesen also scored for the Huskies. Craig Lacasse had the lone goal for the Clippers. Game four goes Sunday in Niverville.


The Eastman Selects season is on the line tonight at the Southdale Arena in Winnipeg. Tyler Bernier scored two power play goals late in the second period as the Winnipeg Bruins downed Eastman 4-1 at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour and now lead the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League's best-of-five quarterfinal two games to none. Braden Berube had the lone goal for the Selects. 


Hockey Manitoba Provincial Championships on this weekend include the CO-ED Under-15 Rural B in Landmark.The CO-ED Under-11 Rural A1 Championship is in Niverville/Ste. Agathe and the Rural A2 Provincials are in Springfield.


Team Toba athletes earned three medals Thursday at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. Khloé Lessard-Kulchyski of Richer captured silver in fencing's sabre event and Matias Enciso of Winnipeg won bronze in fencing's épée event. Daniel Ekosky of Selkirk took bronze in judo's -81kg event. Manitoba's medal count is 12 with three gold, five silver and four bronze.


The Brier begins tonight in London, Ontario. Defending champion Brad Gushue will take on 2020 World Junior champion Jacques Gauthier of BC on the opening draw. Both Manitoba teams play their round robin openers Saturday afternoon. Matt Dunstone will meet Kelly Knapp of Saskatchewan and Reid Carruthers will face Tanner Horgan of Northern Ontario. 


The Steinbach Huskies have a 2-1 lead over the Niverville Clippers in their best-of-seven semifinal. Huskies coach Ben Plett will join Clayton Dreger on the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Report which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
