Addison Kartusch of St. Charles, Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake and Veronica van der Meer of Winnipeg are tied for the lead heading into the final round of the Provincial Women's Amateur Golf Championship at Granite Hills near Lac du Bonnet. All three are 12-over par 156 after 36 holes. Kate Gregoire of Quarry Oaks was 81 Thursday and is eight shots back in a tie for sixth place. Ryan Sholdice of Breezy Bend was two-under par 70 and has the lead heading into the final round of the Provincial Men's Mid-Amateur Championship which is also at Granite Hills.Sholdice is three-over par 147 and is one shot ahead of Drew Jones of Shilo. Adam Guenther of Elmhurst (80) and Tyson Ehnes of Lorette (77) are in a tie for seventh place at 156. Jon Schroeder of Quarry Oaks (80) is 160; Cole Peters of Niakwa (84) is 164; Paul Marsch of the Steinbach Fly-In golf club (85) is 167 and Troy Kehler of Elmhurst (75) is 169.


Baseball Manitoba's Provincial 11U, 13U & 15U A championships are on this weekend. Steinbach and Ste. Anne are at the 11U championship in Stonewall. Steinbach, Mitchell and Niverville are at the 13U championship in Winkler. La Broquerie and Niverville are at the 15U championship in Swan River. The AA championships take place next weekend.


The Carillon Sultans lost 13-2 to the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League leading West Winnipeg A's Thursday night at Charleswood Park. Justin Voth and Kelsey Williscroft drove in three runs each for the A's. The Sultans managed just five hits of Curtis de Pena who went the distance and struck out six.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes wrapped up their seven-game road trip with a 1-0 victory over the American Association's West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field. The Goldeyes broke the scoreless tie in the top of the eighth inning when rookie Justin Thompson hit a leadoff triple then came home one batter later on a passed ball. Tasker Strobel entered the game in tthe bottom of the inning in relief of starter Landen Bourassa and recorded the final five outs to pull into a tie for the league lead with his 14th save of the season. Strobel stranded the tying run at third base in the eighth, then benefitted from a potentially game-saving double play started by third baseman Ian Sagdal in the ninth inning before striking out Evan Alexander with runners at first and second to end the ballgame. The Fish begin a three-game weekend series against the Sioux City Explorers tonight at Shaw Park.
