Hub game recap

The Steinbach Pistons gave up 3 power-play goals and two short-handed goals, eventually losing to the Selkirk Steelers 6-3 on Tuesday night.

Selkirk managed to score a single 5 on 5 goal which came less than thirty seconds into the game. After a turnover in the defensive zone, the Pistons allowed a Steeler to get lost behind the coverage, find a loose puck and bury it to make it 1-0.

Response shifts and goals have been something Steinbach has been able to do over their six-game winning streak and it continued as Ty Paisley tied the game less than three minutes after giving up the opening goal. For Paisley, it was his 19th of the year with Kirk Mullen and Noah Szabo collecting the assists.

A once-in-a-season shorthanded goal against put the Steelers back up in front by a goal after a clearing shot from their own zone somehow found its way through the Pistons netminder and restored Selkirk's one-goal lead, 2-1.

Paisley once again tied things up for Steinbach, scoring on a power play to even things up 2-2. Paisley's second goal gives him a 20-goal season, his first in the MJHL. Landon Roberts and Dawson Milliken were given the assists.

Early in the second, Roberts scored off a great pass from David Cote, putting Steinbach on top for the first time in the game. Roberts' 13th of the season was also assisted by Hunter Degelman.

It was Selkirk's turn to respond quickly after going down in the game as they scored on a power play under two minutes after the Roberts goal to once again tie the game 3-3.

The Pistons lost more than the lead on that goal as defender Noah Szabo blocked a shot seconds before the Steelers scored. The 18-year-old was in obvious discomfort and while he tried to continue, he eventually was shut down for the game, leaving Steinbach with 5 defenders.

Another power-play goal for Selkirk made it 4-3 for the home side.

Paisley notched his hat trick goal to tie the game once again, his 21st of the year. Mullen picked up yet another assist as the teams went into the break all tied up 4-4.

Nearing the midway point of the third, Steinbach looked to grab a lead on a man-advantage but instead, it was the Steelers scoring short-handed, their second shorty of the night, which put them on top 5-4.

Another costly penalty buried the Pistons as Selkirk notched their third power-play goal of the contest, giving them a two-goal cushion.

Steinbach never really threatened and eventually, time ran out and Selkirk skated away with a 6-4 win, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.

Stienbach's power play finished 1-4 while their penalty kill was slapped around, finishing 3-6.

Dominik Wasik was saddled with the loss after making 26 saves.

Steinbach's road trip continues with a trip to Swan Valley on Friday night and a visit to OCN on Saturday night.
