Southeast homeschoolers to show-off projects through Night at the Museum

Homeschoolers are showing off their projects at the Mennonite Heritage Village later this month for Night at the Museum. 

Kristie Brandt with SE Manitoba Homeschool Connections says Night at the Museum is essentially a science fair. 

The project is open-ended for students as they get to choose their own topic, and the way they present it. 

“Last year we had kids who did displays on everything from the phases of the moon to The Beatles to the history of Lego. It was very cool.” 

They had 70 students last year with 70 completely different mini galleries. 

"They all just really dug into the thing that they were fascinated with, which is what we love to see, all the different personalities showing up in their displays." 

Brandt says there a few reasons they started up this event, the first reason being it gives the chance for the students to dig into what they are interested in. 

Secondly, this event is a great learning opportunity to practice how to present information. 

“It's also a really awesome opportunity to connect as a home school community. There are a lot of homeschooling families in the southeast, and so my co-leader Tiffany and I wanted to create an event that would allow connection between all of these different families.” 

She says it is nice to spend time together as a large entity of homeschoolers. 

“There's a lot of smaller groups out there. It's just really nice to be able to come together as a whole community and connect with people.” 

Last year, at least half of the people who signed up were not connected with SE Manitoba Home School Connections. 

“They have other groups that they are part of. And I had an awesome opportunity to meet all these kids and their parents, and the kids were all interacting with each other. It was so much fun to see.” 

Night at the Museum is open to any homeschooling students from the southeast.

Night at the Museum is on Tuesday, April 23rd at Mennonite Heritage Village. 

Doors will open at 6:30pm, so students will need to be there just a little bit ahead of time to set up.
