Two mini-vans collided at the intersection of Ash Street and the 52 Highway in Mitchell at around 8:50 Wednesday morning.

According to an RCMP officer on scene, one vehicle was safely stopped at the stop sign on Ash but then proceeded onto the highway when it was unsafe to do so. The driver’s vision was allegedly obscured by blowing snow and he did not notice the westbound van. The resulting collision caused traffic heading west down Highway 52 to be temporarily redirected down Ash Street.

The highway has since been reopened but is reduced to a single lane as fire crews clean up leaking fluids and debris and the impacted vehicles are towed.

RCMP do not expect anyone is seriously injured, though one person may have been taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.
