The Grunthal Fire Department was called to a grass fire that got out of hand Tuesday afternoon.

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe

Hanover District Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says the residents just south of Grunthal were planning to burn a small patch of grass on their yard when the wind picked up and it got out of control.

Wiebe says, "It burnt bout an acre to an acre and a half, so it's quite minor, but it is getting dry out there. If people are burning, they need to remember to burn only in areas where they are allowed to and to take precautions."

Burning is only allowed on land zoned rural or agricultural. Wiebe says if you're not sure what your property is zoned, to call their office, and they can give you that information.

He says crews were on scene for about half an hour.
