A confusing situation has been cleared up at border crossings at South Junction, Piney and Tolstoi.

The federal government relented earlier this week and put a hold on plans to reduce hours of operation at those ports of entry. But a new problem arose on Tuesday. The ports on the U.S. side of the border, which currently close earlier in the evenings than the Canadian ports, closed their northbound gates before the Canadian Border Services Agency crossings were closed, thus cutting off access for vehicles attempting to enter Canada. The U.S. had apparently not been informed of the latest developments on hours at those Canada customs offices.

Chris Misson of the U.S. Border Patrol office at Pembina told us Thursday morning that the situation has been rectified.

"The northbound gates will remain open on the U.S. side during the operational hours that the CBSA is working."

Provencher MP Ted Falk says he is pleased that Canada's Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale acted quickly after being informed of the matter Wednesday.
