A couple of classic car enthusiasts from Niverville decided to celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary at a special car show in Steinbach.

Lillian and Bernie Falk brought their 66 Buick Skylark to Rest Haven on Tuesday evening where the Country Classics Car Club was holding a mini-car show for the local seniors.

Bernie says this car is special to them because it’s nearly identical to the car they drove on their honeymoon.

“I put a bigger motor in here,” he notes, then adds with a laugh, “So, I told her that on our second honeymoon, we can go in a hurry.”

And they chose Steinbach as the location for their second honeymoon.

“To the seniors' car show and watch the seniors enjoying the vehicles and reminiscing,” says Lillian. “That is so special.”

This is one of many stories that indicate the significance of bringing classic cars to different locations and taking time to visit with people.

The Falks enjoyed meeting so many people, some for the first time and others they hadn’t seen in a while, and this was a common theme throughout the evening. Owners of these classic cars enthusiastically conversed with each person who stopped by, swapping stories and answering questions.

Fifteen Country Classics Car Club members brought their vehicles to the event, and Sandra Kihn says the evening turned out well with the sun coming out just as the cars were arriving.

“It is amazing. It is so cool to see all the people that are out, both from Woodhaven and Rest Haven, and there's been neighbors coming down and the family's been down with their parents. It's really cool to see.”

There were also children enjoying the event, checking out the cars and having fun.

Kihn says the addition of a food truck really added to the event.

Helen Hutt, Tenant Resource Coordinator at Woodhaven, says she is thrilled with how everything turned out.

“We were supposed to do this last Tuesday, but the weather was terrible. Luckily, we had a rain date planned and I couldn't have asked for better weather. And the turnout is just incredible. It's awesome to see so many tenants from Woodhaven and residents from Rest Haven come out and enjoy the cars and get to socialize with each other and meet the drivers. It's wonderful. We're very grateful.”

Hutt thanks the members of the Country Classics Car Club for bringing their vehicles to the seniors and helping create a special evening for the tenants and their families.
