The Eastman Selects gave up three unanswered goals in the first period and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Winnipeg Wild Monday night at Bell MTS Iceplex in game one of the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League's best-of-five semifinal.

Carter Halamandaris, Dean Gorchynski and Rory Neill did the goal scoring for the Wild in the opening period.

Matthew Wisener increased the home teams lead to 4-0 seven minutes into the middle frame.

Kyle Melo and Brody Beauchemin scored 31 seconds apart midway through the second period to cut the deficit to 4-2 but Neill added his second of the night shorthanded just 64 seconds into the third period. Halamandaris potted his second of the game 76 seconds later.

Jayden Catellier stopped nine of 13 shots before being replaced by Owen Kirk seven minutes into the second after the Wild took a 4-0 lead.

Kirk made 18 saves in his 33 minutes of work.

Wild netminder Carson Cherepak faced 28 shots.

Game two goes Wednesday at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour.
