School divisions throughout southeastern Manitoba have cancelled classes and closed schools today.

Randy Dueck, Superintendent of the Hanover School Division, explains they made the call at 5:30 a.m. due to several factors.

"Right now we've got very icy conditions out on the roads and particularly on the rural roads. Our Transportation Director, Ray Fast, has been out there already and it's just not prudent to put buses full of school kids out on those roads right now at all. Due to those icy conditions, and of course later in the day we do anticipate the blizzard rolling in, and, while that is a factor, right now the situation is the very slick condition of the roads."
