A car sits damaged after being rear-ended by a school bus near SRSS

A collision between a school bus and car in Steinbach sent three people to hospital Wednesday morning.

Steinbach fire crews got the call around 8:30.

Fire chief Mark Loewen says the bus rear-ended a car at a crosswalk in front of Steinbach Regional Secondary School.

Loewen says the female bus driver hit the brakes and slid on the icy road.

"From quite a ways back she said she touched the brakes and with the glare ice, she just kept going.  She said she saw it all happening in slow motion.  She said they barely even felt it, I guess partly because it's so icy, the car moved so easily, it was just pushed out of the way."

Three women in the car were transported to hospital for observation.

Hanover School Division Assistant Superintendant Randy Dueck says the kids on the bus are all fine.

'We don't believe any of the kids are injured at all.  In fact, none of the kids really felt the collision in any way, so we believe all the kids are in good shape...they're just antsy because they're still sitting on a bus, ready to go.  No kids have complained about any kind of soreness or anything like that right now.  We have Paramedics on the bus watching them, making sure they're going to be ok.  Right now, there are no indications of any injuries.

Dueck says parents of the children on the bus will be informed by the school they attend.

RCMP say charges are not likely at this point but they continue to investigate.
