After putting together three consecutive victories, the Steinbach Regional Secondary School Sabres hockey team fell 2-0 to Shaftesbury High School.

With the loss, the Sabres' record drops to 3-3 in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League.  SRSS Head Coach Tony D'Angelo notes they have faced challenges early on in the season as they have faced teams that already have established systems and cultures in place, which is something they are still trying to build.  The Sabres got into trouble early and often in the game, as they were penalized a total of eleven times.  However, their penalty kill was perfect on the night, remarkably not allowing a goal on the eleven chances.

"We got a lot of practice on our penalty kill," notes D'Angelo. "It's individuals stepping up and working hard for the team to kill those difficult situations.  22 minutes in penalties is probably a little more than a coaching staff should expect from a team, but again I give nothing but credit to our penalty killers and our goaltending."

Dylan Fortin drew the start in net for the Sabres, and D'Angelo explains he was spectacular.

"He was unbelievable.  I've got to give tons of credit to our goaltending.  Our goaltending is by far keeping us competitive in most of our games.  It's giving us opportunities to get back and get good opportunities to attack their net and get good offensive opportunities."

D'Angelo adds six games into their first season, there have been some highs and lows for the team.  He notes they've had some great performances, but also had some inconsistent games.  The Sabres will face a tough challenge next week when they host St Paul's, whom D'Angelo is expecting to be a top three or four team in their division.

The game takes place On November 20th at 4:00pm at the TG Smith Centre.
