Steinbach Fire Crews responded to a rollover Monday morning

There was a single-vehicle rollover just to the west of Mitchell early Monday morning.

Steinbach Deputy Fire Chief Don Smith says the call came in just after 7:30am.

"We had a single-vehicle rollover approximately half a mile west of Mitchell.  A van hit an icy spot, lost control, entered the ditch and flipped onto its side.  No injuries at that scene but roadways were extremely slippery this morning and very dangerous, so people just needed to slow down and take extra precaution this morning."

And Smith says that not only goes for drivers but also emergency crews.

"We slow down quite a bit because we have larger vehicles.  Because of the larger vehicles, it's even more dangerous for us if we lose control.  So, our response time becomes a little bit longer and of course, it puts our people at risk too.  Again, we encourage people to drive according to the conditions, take a couple extra minutes and we'll all get to where we're going safely."

As of 9am Monday morning, Highway 59 through St.Pierre was said to be bare but Highway #12 to the Trans-Canada is reportedly ice-covered, so drivers should continue to adjust their speeds.

The Trans-Canada to Winnipeg is also said to be snow-covered with slippery sections.
