Following the lead of many of their neighbouring municipalities, the RM of De Salaberry has now issued a fire ban.

Effective immediately, Chief Administrative Officer Denise Parent says her region is under a level 2 burn ban meaning fires are only allowed in approved receptacles and all open-air fires are strictly prohibited.

“It is very very dry out there right now so we are asking people to please use caution and be safe.”

Parent says the recommendation comes from the municipal fire chief who has been attending an increasing number of out-of-control grass fires in recent days. With multiple fairly large wildfires throughout southeastern Manitoba in the past several days, Parent says the ban seems like the wise decision to make.

Meanwhile, for similar reasons, the RM of La Broquerie also put a fire ban in place this morning.

The current list of local municipalities with fire bans includes:
-RM of Piney
-RM of Stuartburn
-RM of Ste. Anne
-RM of Emerson-Franklin
-RM of De Salaberry
-RM of La Broquerie
