Team Manitoba went winless in the preliminary round at the 2019 National Women's U18 Hockey Championship.

Emilie Lussier and Gabrielle Santerre scored first period goals and Brianna Ware and Ann-Frédérik Naud scored two minutes apart late in the final frame as Quebec defeated Manitoba 4-1 Thursday night in Morden.

Eastman Selects captain Kylie Lesuk scored at 3:41 of the middle period while Team Manitoba enjoyed a two-man advantage.

That cut the deficit to 2-1 but for the third straight game Manitoba couldn't add a second goal.

In his post-game press conference Team Manitoba head coach Rob Voth said he liked the way his players performed in the second and third periods but there were issues in the opening 20 minutes.

"We had lets say a firm discussion with them about the way I thought they had played in the first period," said Voth. "I wasn't happy with it, with their effort and their urgency. We discussed it between the first and the second and as I left the room just now, I told them how happy and proud I was with those second and third periods."

Trailing 2-1 Voth watched his team's best shift of the week take place midway throught the third period and they were almost rewarded with the tying goal.

"We had an opportunity and Quebec was kind of scrambling around and we pulled the puck back out and spread them out and let the puck go. It was like there was a wall in front and we couldn't get it. Credit to Quebec, they knew we had the pressure on and they collapsed the box in front of their goalie and we had to get the puck through."

Brandon's Natalie Williamson made 22 saves in her first appearance in net for the host province.

Team Manitoba finished in last place in Group B with an 0-3 record.

"I thought we all played well with our effort," said Selects forward Madelaine DesRosiers when asked about the preliminary round. "It was just a few technical things that we got wrong that we can work on. Other than that I thought we played well."

Manitoba will face Atlantic in the Seventh Place Game.

The opening faceoff is at 1 p.m. at the Winkler Arena.

DesRosiers says in order to win their final game at the Nationals, they just need to keep skating.

"Start to finish we got to go hard and move our feet."
