Manitoba's police watchdog is investigating a motorcycle crash near Dugald this week that saw a teen driver airlifted to hospital.

On Tuesday evening, RCMP notified the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba of an incident that occurred at 7:57 pm, while officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 15.

According to the notification, RCMP attempted a traffic stop after encountering a motorcycle operated by a 16-year-old male travelling at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle passed by and subsequently struck another civilian vehicle. The driver of the motorcycle was located in the ditch and transported by STARS air ambulance to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg with bone fractures.

The driver of the secondary vehicle was not injured.

As bone fractures are defined as a serious injury, the IIU is mandated to investigate.

Witnesses or other individuals who have information or video footage that may assist this investigation are asked to contact the IIU toll free at 1-844-667-6060.

The investigation is ongoing and so no further details have been provided at this time.
