Springfield Police Service held a two-day boot camp for kids, and it sounds like it was a fun time for everyone involved.

The camp was held during spring break and focused on different types of emergency services.

In its report, the police service states, “what an adventure we had. Lots of jumping jacks were done and many laps were run.”

The fun began with presentations from the Military Police and Winnipeg Police Service.

The kids were then joined by members of 38 Canadian Brigade Group who explained the role they play in the army and offered a tour of one of their big trucks.

That might sound like a full day already, but there was more to come. Manitoba Hydro came out to teach about the dangers of power lines and then there was show-and-tell with many of their tools and equipment in their boom truck.

The second day of boot camp was just as full and exciting, beginning with a visit from Andrew, a Manitoba Conservation Officer who shared the role of Conservation and talked about the different animals we can find in Manitoba.

Simon from Canadian Pacific Railway Police came out to talk about his job policing Canada's railways.

The Springfield Fire and Rescue Service capped off the afternoon with obstacle courses, fire truck tours and opportunities to try out all kinds of equipment, including fire hoses.

They took this opportunity to wash the army truck.

“This event could not have run without the help of our staff, the friends and family of Springfield Police and the support of our local community. We hope the kids had fun and learned a lot about their local emergency services, our role in their community and some helpful tips for staying safe and living a healthy and active lifestyle!” - Springfield Police Service
