Shaylyn's picture of the Southeast Prairie Thunder exhibit at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto

Local hockey player Tim Plett along with the rest of the Southeast Prairie Thunder were found on the walls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in downtown Toronto this past month.

Steinbach residents Andrew and Shaylyn Wilkenson were pleasantly surprised when they stumbled upon an exhibit featuring the Allan Cup Champions. Andrew says experiencing the Hall of Fame was great, but bumping into Tim Plett and the rest of the Thunder team made it even better.

"We saw local hockey hero Tim Plett on the amateur wall. We were walking by and my wife Shaylyn stopped and said 'that looks a lot like Tim.'  I doubled back and saw that it said Southeast Prairie Thunder and then told Shaylyn 'because that is Tim.'"

Shaylyn quickly took a picture with her phone and sent it off to her cousin Nicole Plett, Tim's wife. When the picture got to Tim, he says he couldn't believe it.

"My wife had shown me and it was a complete surprise, I had no idea. Nicole and I were very shocked!"

The Thunder completed an amazing run this past spring with a 4-1 win against the Rosetown Red Wings at the Allan Cup final in Loydminister, Saskatchewan. Plett was also apart of the Thunder team that lost 4-3 in double overtime to the Bentley Generals at the Allan Cup final hosted in Steinbach back in 2009.

Plett says he will be back on the ice this upcoming season for the Senior Mitchell Mohawks and the Thunder; if someone puts together another team.
