The University of Manitoba Bisons men's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule with a trip to the west coast.

Cole Peters and Stefan Lavallee of Steinbach along with Cameron McIntyre, Connor Stewart and Anthony Leicht of Winnipeg finished in a tie for fifth place with UBC Okanagnan at the Canada West Golf Championship at the Squamish Valley Golf Club in Vancouver.

Using the best four of five scores, the Bisons had a 36-hole total of nine-over-par 585 which was 34 shots back of the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds winning score of 551.

The U of M was just six shots back of UBC after round one.

McIntyre (67-74) finished tied for ninth, four strokes behind Ethan Banks of Calgary. Lavallee (71-74) finished 15th, Peters (71-75) finished 16th, Stewart (73-81) finished in a tie for 30th spot and Leicht (75-80) finished in a tie for 33rd place.

UBC, Fraser Valley, University of Calgary and the University of Victoria qualified for the 2022 Canadian University/College Championship which will be held from May 31st to June 3rd at a yet to be determined location.

An application process will determine if the U of M will join the field at the Nationals next spring.

The Bisons played in a pair of tournaments in Alberta to start the fall schedule.

Manitoba finished second at the University of Alberta Invitational at Northern Bear Golf Club and third at the Calgary Dinos Invitational at Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club.

Clayton Dreger asked Steinbach's Cole Peters, who is into his third year at the University of Manitoba, to reflect on his second season with the Bisons golf team and their return to competition after the 2020 schedule was cancelled due to COVID-19
