Hub game recap

Goalie Cole Plowman made 30 saves while the Pistons penalty kill went 5 for 5 in Steinbach's 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Blues on Friday night.

Prior to the game, the Pistons announced that for the games this weekend kids 12 and under get in for free, so the stands were filled with kids and families who were treated to a show early.

Less than thirty seconds into the game, the Pistons brought both young and old to their feet with an electric and entertaining opening goal.

The play started in the defensive zone where Langley Kruggel helped free up the puck down low before executing a breakout pass that eventually found the stick of Ty Paisley. The 18-year-old Paisley stormed out of the zone and used his speed and elite puck protection to get into the Blues zone. His original shot on goal was stopped but with the help of Davis Fry and Travis Hensrud, they managed to get the puck back and filter a pass back out to Paisley who buried it to make it 1-0.

For Paisley, it was his 10th goal of the year. Fry picked up the lone assist giving him 22 points so far through 13 games.

After the opening couple of shifts that were dominated by Steinbach, the Blues started to push back. They forced a number of turnovers and wouldn't allow Steinbach through the neutral zone with any speed, denying any constant attack from the home side.

Winnipeg managed 13 shots in the opening 20 minutes but Plowman stood tall turning every chance away, helping Steinbach take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The Blues managed to tie the game less than three minutes into the second period, knotting the game at 1-1.

After a lackluster first period, the Pistons picked things back up in the second and started to use their speed to generate offense.

Throughout the period the teams traded chances but it was a Blues turnover late that gave Steinbach the lead again.

Neo Kiemeney disrupted the Blues defender below the goal line and forced the puck towards Nate Goodbrandson who snapped a quick shot past the blocker of the Blues goalie and in to give the Pistons a 2-1 lead.

The go-ahead goal for Goodbrandson was the 19-year-old's 7th of the year and fifth in as many games.

Steinbach got into a bit of penalty trouble between late in the second and early in the third. Plowman and the penalty kill units refused to let the Blues get the game back to even.

As time ticked away, the Blues pulled the goalie for the extra attacker but it was Leo Chambers who scored into the empty net to seal the game.

For Chambers, it was his 6th of the year. The unassisted marker put Steinbach up 3-1. That's all they would need as the horn sounded and home fans went home happy.

The penalty kill was a perfect 5-5 while the power play was only on the ice for 27 seconds and finished 0-1.

Plowman recorded his 7th straight win making 30 saves on the night.

Steinbach will continue their three-game home stand on Sunday when they welcome in the Selkirk Steelers.
