The main rail crossing in La Broquerie will soon be under repairs again.

Last summer, CN Rail smoothed out the notoriously rough crossing that splits Principale Street in half; a long-anticipated project that has impressed motorists ever since.

“They did an amazing job there,” grins Reeve Lewis Weiss, “every time I cross it I think: ‘Oh my goodness we have a good crossing’.”

in front of motor vehicle traffic to get from point A to point B.

“Right now, people have to walk onto the street and then cross on the inside of the rail arms,” describes Weiss, “which, for young children going to and from school, definitely is a bit dangerous.”

Looking at Transport Canada’s generous financial contribution, Weiss feels they acknowledge the rapid population growth the community has experienced in recent years and recognizes what needs to be done to keep everyone safe.

The project’s total cost comes in at around $140,000, and Weiss says his Council will be contributing the other $28,000.
