Many parents and students expressed anger and frustration at the parent-led, SRSS protest on Thursday.

The student walkout and protest eventually led to hold-and-secure protocol being implemented in the school, the RCMP showing up, and an early end to the school day.

ciety but just be mindful of the impact you are having on others in the short term and long term.”

Administration has decided that students at Steinbach Regional Secondary School will shift to remote learning for the day on Friday.

In a lengthy post on social media, Kim Rempel expressed her anger and frustration with the organizers of the protest.

“My kids are home early today, like many others, due to a school lockdown which was essentially a publicity stunt made on the backs of children.

These are my Mama Bear feelings about adult-shaped people who leverage children for media coverage.

This protest is not "for the children", regardless of how many honking passers-by do not recognize that. This is the blatant USING of children. A publicity stunt at the expense of children. Gross. Putrid. Low.”

Rempel went on to note that some reports indicated protestors were entering the school to entice students out with free donuts and drinks.

"As we all know, there was a walkout at the SRSS today that resulted in a lockdown and a hold and secure.

I was there, and i was terrified. I thought there was a shooter. I thought someone had a weapon. I genuinely thought i was going to die today. I was desperatly trying to calm my friend down, who was panicking.

This was not a peaceful protest at all. When things like this happen, when you put students, CHILDREN, at risk with your 'peaceful protest', that's not okay.

Students who participated made other people feel unsafe. The school was letting them back in and they were harassing others.

A school is somewhere your supposed to feel comfortable and safe. It was the exact opposite today.

To anyone who participated in this 'peaceful' protest, i am so angry, and so very disappointed.

Sincerely,

An SRSS student."
