The SRSS Sabres Varsity Boys and Girls Volleyball teams were both perfect Friday, each winning in straight sets to claim the SCAC Zone Championship banner.

Both the boys and girls teams faced Glenlawn Collegiate in the finals with the SRSS girls winning 25-14, 25-19, 26-24, and the SRSS boys winning 25-16, 25-13, 25-23.  The championships qualify both teams for Provincials, and girls middle Jessica Jabs says they weren't expecting to win in straight sets.

"I guess everyone just came in confident and they really wanted it," she notes.  "We all came together and fought and everyone wanted the ball.  There were a couple scrambly plays, but somebody went for it."

Jabs' teammate and co-captain Bobbie Nickel explains winning in straight sets will help their confidence as they prepare for Provincials.

"I guess it just helps us know we can do it, we're there, we have the confidence and the team strength," Nickel says.  "So it just kind of helps us to know, 'Yes we can do it, we've done it before so let's do it.'"

Boys setter Eric Loeppky describes what winning Zones is like.

"If feels pretty great, it's one of the goals we had at the start of the year and we completed it," he explains.  "There's one more goal to complete now, and that's Provincials.  So we'll keep pushing hard and practicing hard for the next two weeks and see what happens."

SRSS boys captain and power hitter Mackenzie Hildebrand adds the Sabres showed up ready to play against Glenlawn.

"I thought we played pretty good, we came out pretty strong," he notes.  "Glenlawn pushed through the whole time, in the third set they picked it up and gave us a run for our money.  We had to perform and we did, so that was good."

The Provincial 'AAAA' High School Varsity Volleyball Championships begin November 21st with the Regionals in Winnipeg.
