Niverville Town Council awarded the final contracts, last week, to the businesses that will be retrofitting the second floor of the Town Offices which will house the new RCMP detachment.

This is a project that was put in motion in October 2021 with hopes of having the work completed by April of this year.

After complications and delays, the offices are nearing completion, with the final two contracts being awarded.

The first contract was awarded to Isaac Nemesz, an independent business owner, for the doors and frames in the RCMP office for the amount of $163,536.

It was noted that following the town's due tendering process, this was the only bid submitted, and under the requirements of the tenant, Mayor Myron Dyck noted that, “they (RCMP) have to have the business approved,” which this business was.

It was also mentioned that due to a higher security level, the doors and frames would cost more. That said, CAO King said, the contract awarded was “roughly for the amount the town had already budgeted for.”

The second contract was for the structural component of the RCMP offices which was awarded to Prairie Ag Contracting from Grunthal for $389,116.

Then to clarify the reason for the two different contracts, it was explained that one was specifically for doors and doorframes, while the second contract was for all the inside walls of the retrofit.

It was also noted that all the contracts for the retrofit of the RCMP offices have been handed out now.

When the question of cost came up and where the project was at compared to what had been budgeted, King says, “We’re at $1.2 or $1.3 million right now.”  The project was originally budgeted at $1 million.

To which the mayor replied, “And in light of what we're seeing with cost increases on projects overall in the last year, that's actually not bad.”

Councillor Chris Wiebe asked, “When can they start?” To which the CAO quickly replied, “Shortly.”

The approval of both contracts was unanimous and carried.
