With construction well underway on Niverville’s Community Resource and Recreation Centre, the search for volunteer instructors is on.

Warren Britton, the town’s new Recreation Manager, has only been on the job for a month, but already has a lot on his plate. “We’ve started to build what our programmers think would be successful in the town,” says Britton, “but we also notice that we will have community members come to us with ideas that we may not have thought of.”

Britton says that the available programs will be balanced and offer something for everyone “youth, adults, and seniors.” He assures residents that the centre will offer everything from athletic and non-athletic activities, to social opportunities. “We’re looking to build a diverse group of programming, offering to get as many of our community members to our facility.”

The multi-use facility contains a field house capable of housing three volleyball courts, an arena, two multi-purpose rooms, a teaching kitchen, and a board room. Britton says the intention is to provide these facilities with the equipment instructors would require for their programs. “It’s a lot easier to run a basketball program when basketballs exist.” offers Britton somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

Britton says he’s already looked into what equipment the centre will need and where it can be purchased. “I’m budgeting for things like pickleball and volleyball nets and all that we would need to have on hand,” he explains. “We wouldn’t require any of the instructors to bring it in themselves.”

The manager is quick to remind those who may not have an interest in instructing, but have ideas for programming, to submit their thoughts for consideration at recreation@whereyoubelong.ca.

“We would love to hear your ideas, even if you’re not looking to run a program,” assures Britton. “My staff loves to hear your input.”
