A man who has lived in Steinbach for seven months is seeking election to city council. Michael Chin says he wants to serve on council to make a difference in people's lives. He adds he would also bring diversity to city hall.

"My slogan is diversity and change. I am actually half Chinese and that's part of my diversity that I bring to Steinbach. In this day of the culture of Steinbach Pride, the culture of online shopping, of Sunday shopping, you've got to be diverse and the city has got to be diverse in change and we have to adapt as people. That's part of my diversity that I bring to city hall. I decided to run for city politics because wherever I've gone, I've kind of made a difference, I've kind of made a change, I've kind of made people think. People either really love me or they hate me but either way, one thing that has always stayed true is that I'm very truthful, I'm very straight to the point."

Chin says two key issues for him are to create more jobs for low-income people and to open up Sunday shopping. He notes the poor have a special place in his heart.,

"Poverty and low-income people and homelessness is a big thing to me because I've personally lived it and I feel like that's part of me giving back, I'm part of their voice. I want to work with every organization within Steinbach and create awareness and conversation about the things that need to be done."

Chin says he chose to move to Steinbach because he has family in New Bothwell and Grunthal and wants to give back to the community.
