Volunteers with the Morris and Area Christmas Cheerboard have doled out their annual dose of Christmas cheer. The group, which serves the entire R.M. of Morris and Town of Morris, distributed about 100 food and gift hampers last weekend.

"Most years it seems to be right around the hundred mark," said Jack Wiebe, a member of the Christmas Team, as the volunteers like to be known as. He noted, one year demand peaked at nearly 120 hampers but said it evened back out to 100 in the years since.

Filled with all of the items needed to make a Christmas meal, including potatoes and carrots donated by Kroeker Farms, a large ham and gifts for the children, the hampers included a few extras this year as well.

"The Chamber came on board and worked out a deal to add some Chamber Bucks to the hampers, and the Town added some pool passes for the families with kids," explained Wiebe. "Something that's continued from previous years is the MCC also chips in some shopping vouchers, and Tim Hortons, we get a pile of ten-dollar gift cards for the older kids and (Tim Hortons) donates ten percent of those cards back to the Cheerboard."
