The Rural Municipality of Hanover has received eight formal reports of water issues since June 26th from within the community of New Bothwell.

After commissioning a well interference investigation, the Manitoba Water Services Board has concluded that the current private well issues in New Bothwell are not related to the Town of Niverville water supply, which is located one mile from New Bothwell.

The monitoring data has concluded that the interferences are directly related to another unidentified, licensed groundwater user within that community.

Provincial monitoring wells in the area continue to show that the New Bothwell region is showing an abundance of groundwater available for drawdown in the aquifer.

Residents with private well water issues in New Bothwell are now asked to contact the Water Use Licensing Section of Manitoba Sustainable Development at wateruse@gov.mb.ca to register their concerns.

Back in June, Jeff Bell, Engineer for Friesen Drillers in Steinbach told Steinbachonline.com that water levels in the southeast are down this year, the result of our climate the last six months. In fact, Bell said water levels in the southeast were at their lowest marks in four or five years. However, he said there was still a lot of water to draw from.

"I wouldn't say wells would be running dry, it's just that the pumping system might need to be changed in order to modify that," said Bell. "But no, wells wouldn't be running dry."
