It's one way of trying to reduce auto theft in Manitoba.

If you own a vehicle considered to be on the hit list for thieves, you are now required to install an immobilizer.  Don Neufeld of Steinbach is past president of the Manitoba Motor Dealers Association.  He says any vehicle imported into Manitoba or those which have already been stolen once will need the device before being allowed to be safetied.
Neufeld says a high risk list has been sent to all locations in our province which provide vehicle safeties.  Before a safety is complete, vehicle owners will be told whether or not their vehicle requires an immobilizer.  By 2008, all new vehicles sold in Manitoba will have an immobilizer.  Manitoba Public Insurance is hoping 90 per cent of all vehicles will have the device by 2010.
