Local artist Brandon Post recently popped by our studios to talk about his newly released song, titled Money and Guts.

He credits his wife Lindsey for the title.

“She's the one who said it and I just didn't hear the rest of what she said. I ran off to the office and wrote the song. It's about feeling stuck in different ways and needing to make changes, but not necessarily having the courage or the resources to do so.”

Post co-wrote the song with friend and fellow musician Erika Fowler.

“It was written during lockdown, and we were all staring at the same four walls all the time and, kind of feeling a little antsy. And Lindsey said, ‘I wish I had the money or the guts to...’ and she was talking about home decor. But I ran off to the studio and wrote the song. The title was just too good to pass by.”

What would the artist do with a bit more money and guts?

“I would probably move to Nashville for a while and flounder as one of a million people trying to make it,” he answers with a laugh.

Post will continue to find inspiration wherever he is, whatever the conversation. Turning a discussion about interior decorating into an upbeat song about a powerful topic, we can be sure to hear more from Brandon Post.

Money and Guts, written and produced by Brandon Post and Erika Fowler, with a recording grant from Manitoba Film and Music, recorded at Timberline Recording Studio in Steinbach.
