The province's potato crop is off to a good start.  Manitoba Agriculture potato business development specialist Tom Gonsalves says the crop is in excellent condition overall.  He notes disease and insect pressure has not been a big concern up to this point, but stresses growers should be scouting their fields none the less.  Gonsalves adds Colorado potato beetle larvae are beginning to hatch, so now's the time to get a handle on numbers and defoliation.
