For a second straight night the Pistons needed extra time to defeat their opponent, this time beating the Selkirk Steelers 3-2 in overtime for their third straight win.

It was a wild opening period as both teams went stride for stride, shot for shot in an entertaining display that showed off both teams skill sets.

Selkirk managed to put Steinbach in a hole scoring in the span of seven minutes to lead 2-0.

As the period was coming to a close, Steinbach managed to get one back as a centering pass from Ty Naaykens found the stick of Zach Purcell who scored his 4th of the year to cut the lead to 2-1. For Purcell, he's scored in two of the past three games.

It's been a struggle for the Pistons with the man advantage but it finally got some results in the second period.

A point shot from Dylan Cassie ended up going high over the goal and bouncing off the glass right out in front to the waiting stick of Codey Behun who stuff home a backhander to tie the game 2-2. Behun's torrid pace continues as the 19-year-old now leads the team in goals with 8 on the season while also collecting goals in his last three straight games.

It was a dominating 18 minutes of the second for Steinbach but Selkirk managed to get a little momentum before the period was complete as both teams headed into the 2nd intermission deadlocked at two.

In the third, both Levi Mitchell for Selkirk and the debut of Dante Giannuzzi in the Steinbach goal held their teams in it, making a number of saves to force overtime.

As the three on three extra period wore on, Steinbach earned a power play opportunity but couldn't cash in.

Just when fans were gearing up for a shootout for a second consecutive night, Carter Loney managed to fish the puck out of some skates in the slot, faked a shot before dragging the puck to his backhand and chipped a beauty past Mitchell to give Steinbach the 3-2 win. Kyle Bettens had one assist while Caydin Cleland, who had another very strong game on the blue line was credited with the secondary assist.

Shots heavily favored the Pistons finishing 51-32. The power play was 1-3 while the penalty kill was very strong, led by Troy Beauchemin and David Queree finishing a perfect 3-3.

Improving their record to 11-2-1-1 has vaulted the team into second place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The Neepawa Natives visit the TG Smith Centre on Wednesday night before the Pistons take to the road for a game vs the Dauphin Kings on Saturday night.
