Kristin MacCuish, originally from Landmark, is going to be featured in the 2023 Curling Cares Calendar.

The calendar highlights different athletes across the world and the money raised goes to various charities.

MacCuish chose to give her donation to the CancerCare Foundation and Alzheimer's Foundation.

“Both are really important foundations to me. We've had family members and friends in the past few months that have passed away from cancer, so it means a lot to me,” she says. “My grandma has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and it kind of runs in the family. So yeah, two really important charities that I hope to raise a lot of money for.”

She was glad to have the opportunity to shed some light on the charities as well as promote curling and women in sport.

She’s currently curling with teammates Kaitlyn Lawes and Jocelyn Peterman, as well as Selena Njegovan who she has curled with for quite a few years.

“It's been a lot of fun. We've had a lot of laughs on the road, just getting to know what each of us like and what each of us don't like. But yeah, it honestly has been a lot of fun to get to know Kaitlyn and Jocelyn a little better.”

They started off their season by going to Iceland and Norway, and then they did some traveling around Canada. They were in Fredericton and just recently got back from North Bay Ontario.

One of the most memorable moments with her team was when they were all woken up by a disturbance in the middle of the night.

“The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night at a hotel. Then we had an 8:30 AM game the next morning, so that wasn't fun.”

MacCuish says that if it weren’t for curling, she wouldn’t have visited a lot of these places. She’s glad they have the opportunity to see new places and meet new people.

“The people in some of the small communities that we go to are the best part.”
