The Mayor of the RM of Tache is waiting for more information about a dike to protect Landmark from flooding. Robert Rivard says the federal and provincial governments announced ten days ago that the dike would be built but adds there are very few details.

"The only problem right now is, when we got the funding, they changed the scope of the project. So we're not exactly sure, we're trying to work out with the province right now to see just what the new scope of the project is and we don't have a whole lot of information on it yet."

He adds they have also not been given a dollar amount of the grants either.

Rivard outlines the general concept of a dike on the east side of Landmark to protect the community from flooding.

"The idea originally, and I think it still is, is to run right from Arena Road to the 210 heading to Ste. Anne. It wouldn't have to be very high because, when the flooding comes in, it's overland flooding. You get six inches or a foot of water, it affects the whole town because it's so flat there that it just spreads out and everybody's basements, the streets, everything is affected. So it doesn't have to be a very high dike to make the flow go around the town instead of through the town."

Rivard is hoping to get more details soon so they can begin planning for construction.
