A lady from St Malo is glad she didn't fall for a recent telephone scam involving her computer.  The woman, who asked that we don't use her name, was called around supper time Wednesday by a man she thought to be in his 30's.  Her call display said "unknown number".  The caller told her he was from Microsoft and her computer was sending back messages that something was wrong and her operating system needed updating.

She was very insistent in asking how the caller got her name and phone number but was only told her computer was sending the message.  After several rounds of her questions, the man got flustered, told her to "never mind" and hung up.

A call to Steinbach RCMP confirmed that there are numerous scams similar to this out there.  The advice was to call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.  It appears this is not the first time someone has been called with this offer as the website details how this scam has been attempted with others.
