A former resident of La Broquerie shared the stage Sunday with a Country music star.

Melanie Bedard had the opportunity to sing side by side with Carrie Underwood in Winnipeg. Bedard says it was surreal for her. "It was unlike anything in the world, I personally love being on stage, it’s my thing, so it felt very natural to me."

Bedard won the opportunity after Underwood posted to social media looking for fans to submit videos performing the rap portion of ‘The Champion’. "It had to go through a panel of judges, they had to review your submission and then they chose a winner and it was me," says Bedard.

Along with a video submission, fans were asked who their champion is and Bedard chose herself. "I decided I wanted to be my own champion," she continues. "I thought it was really important to acknowledge what I was going

I suffer from anxiety and depression and there was a moment where I was telling myself music is so important and I need this to motivate myself, if I put this out into the universe it’ll bring goodness to my life."

Bedard says she’s never performed in front of a crowd this big before and notes that the energy coming off Underwood when they sang together was mind blowing.

Bedard was left with a signed hat from Underwood and she says the crew took care of her throughout the process and was a great group of people.
