The RM of La Broquerie will be spending $286,425 on gravel contracts for local roads this year.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says often times, council awards gravel contracts to multiple companies and this year is no different.

"We send out three tenders and the different companies give prices for different sections because you have to realize some sections are far away from them and some are closer so their prices reflect on the distance they would have to drive. Possibly they may have to drive around depending on where they get the gravel from so the price reflects."

This year Fast Brothers was awarded the contract for section 1 at $58,925 and Harel’s Sand and Gravel was awarded the contracts for sections 2,3,4, and 5 at $227,500. Weiss says wear and tear on gravel roads in the municipality has not been too bad this spring, but there is still work to be done.

"This spring has been very good for flooding but the last two years before this we had severe flooding and the washing of roads and everything else so we have had to increase our budget toward that to help keep those roads in better condition and maybe build them up a little higher."
