La Broquerie’s daycare will be doubling in size.

Andrée Rémillard is the Director of La Garderie Des P’tits Brisous. She says there is a rapidly growing need for daycare space in her community and her team has been trying to expand since 2016. Finally, this year, all of the necessary approvals came through and all of the necessary funding was accounted for.

The daycare currently occupies 2,000 square feet within École Saint-Joachim. The impending renovation will extend the facility further onto the school’s front yard and add another 2,000 square feet. Rémillard says that is good news for young La Broquerie families.

At the moment Les P’tits Brisouts has the capacity for 8 infants, 10 nursery school students, 39 preschool students, and 41 school-age students. Rémillard says this addition will make room for 8 more infants and 16 more preschoolers.

“What that means is that almost everybody on our waitlist will have a spot once we open.”

Rémillard says the new space will include two child care rooms, one office, and a mechanical room. Altogether she estimates the project will cost roughly 1.6 million dollars before furnishings.

The funding for the expansion is coming from a wide variety of sources including local businesses, community members, and all three levels of government. “We’re very lucky,” Rémillard remarks.

Construction on the daycare is expected to begin in May and be finished by the end of the year.
