Kroeker Avenue in Steinbach has been torn up as crews rebuild the street.

According to the city’s Head Engineer Kyle Shymko, Kroeker Avenue is getting a complete overhaul much like Barkman Avenue got a few years ago.

"The project started 2 to 3 weeks ago. They started closer to Main Street and what they are doing is working toward Third Street. They first started with the underground and once the underground is done of the first block, they will follow behind with the surface works, and then they kind of progress that whole way toward Third Street."

Shymko says the paving should be complete by mid-August and the landscaping should wrap up by the end of August. He adds in the meantime, the construction has had a significant impact on local residents' access to their homes.

"Before the project even starts, we delivered notices to the residents to let them know that they may be without access during certain periods of time. We try to work with the residents but typically access in the areas where they are working may be limited during the workweek and when they are not working on the weekend we will ask the contractor to give them some kind of temporary access if it is needed."
