The Winnipeg Jets offence shows up with five goals as they beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 Sunday night at MTS Centre.

Winnipeg's top six forwards accounted for all five goals scored, with 13 of the 15 points picked up by the Jet's players were attributed to the top two lines.

Blake Wheeler led the way with four assists in the game, and now leads the team with 11goals, 35 assists for 46 points in 59 games. His 46 points also tops his previous season high point total of 45, which he attained back in 2008-2009 with the Boston Bruins.

“He has been playing great lately, he's been our best player. He's seeing the ice so well, it's been a whole different year for him. It seems like his play making ability is on a whole new level he is finding guys everywhere,” commented Bryan Little on Wheeler's play this season.

Even though Wheeler had a four point night he didn't sound satisfied with his or his team's total effort.

“We need to be better than that, we got some good bounces. They didn't get some good bounces. Ondrej Pavelec bailed us out. When we get into more of these tight games we have to be a little bit better in some of these little areas where we are turning pucks over and giving chances up.”

The game could have been drastically different if it weren't for Pavelec's play in the second period. Colorado got three second period power plays and that helped them generate twenty second period shots compared eight for the Jets.

The hosts got off to a quick start in the middle frame with two quick goals scored 1:45 apart by Evander Kane netting his 22nd and Bryan Little putting away his 17th. Chris Thorburn's hooking penalty at 6:11 shifted the momentum in the Avalanche's favor. Colorado rookie Gabriel Landeskog snapped a low blocker shot off the rush to cut the Jets lead in half on the powerplay at 10:42.

The Jets were able to quickly regain their two goal lead shortly after when Kyle Wellwood grabbed a loose puck behind the net quickly wrapping it around the post for his 12th on the season.

With the edge restored, Ondrej Pavelec made big save after big save flashing his glove at least five or six times before the period came to a close.

Winnipeg Jets head coach Claude Noel felt very confident in his goaltenders play, “I don't get really nervous watching him in net. He looks like he is calm and under control, it looks like the puck is going half speed. He's in a good place right now, I'm happy he's there.”

The crowd recognized Pavelec's tremendous effort cheering and clapping after what seemed like every glove save.

“We play hockey for the fans, I just try to stop the puck, when they hit your glove it's fun. For me it's another save I just focus on the next one,” commented Pavelec on the crowd's reaction.

The Jets have now won three in a row, and things are looking up. They will continue their longest home stand of the season with six more games at MTS Centre as they continue the push for a playoff spot. It certainly looks promising with a record of 18-9-2 at MTS Centre.

Next up are the Philadelphia Flyers - A team the Jets have beaten twice this season.

Puck drop is 6:00pm Tuesday at MTS Centre.
