The owner of three Tim Hortons restaurants in Steinbach says Camp Day on Wednesday was a great success.

Andrew Heidebrecht says on Camp Day, the proceeds from coffee helps send kids to camp. They also sold bracelets, held a barbecue and hosted other games as a way of raising additional funds. By the time the last coffee had been sold and all the change was counted, Heidebrecht says they raised $13,421. That is at least $800 more than last year's record-breaking day.

"We had a fantastic day," says Heidebrecht. "No words can describe it, amazing, incredible."

Heidebrecht says their restaurants will be sending a total of four girls from southeastern Manitoba to Onondaga Farms in Ontario. These are girls who would not otherwise have the opportunity to go to a Tim Hortons Camp and are selected with the help of ROC Eastman. Two girls will be heading in July and the other two in August for one week.

"They are fantastic camps, really top notch places," says Heidebrecht. "The kids learn teamwork and confidence and independence and a lot of maturity and self-worth and acknowledge that they can do what they put their mind to."

Heidebrecht says midway through the week, the campers will send him letters to let them know how they are doing and what they are learning. And he says in years past they have been blessed to hear from the parents of some of the young people who share how their children have changed through the camp.

"It's an incredible feeling as an owner to know that we can help the community come together to support these kids and send them off to further their life and make life better for themselves," he says.

In addition to the four girls they are sending, Heidebrecht says two others will be going through the Tim Hortons located inside Walmart. He adds next year they will send two more through the new restaurant at Esso.
